RESIDENCY CLOUD/DANSLAB
Den Haag/The Hague april 2018
In preparation for "GONG" - a cooperation with composer Iwan Gunawan, Aafke de Jong was offered a
two week residency at Cloud/Danslab in the city of Den Haag (The Hague).
During this research Aafke especially dived into the abrubt changes of energy that are so remarkable in traditional Balinese dance. What happens if we transfer this concept to a more contemporary way of movement?
Aafke studied Balinese dance in Bali, Indonesia between 1999 and 2003 and after coming back to The Netherlands often uses elements from Balinese dance and social context as a source of inspiration for her work. Read more about it here.
Two dancers who live in The Netherlands (Rahmida Dewi Patmawati and Fazle Shairmahomed) joined in in order to prepare for our new project GONG, which was presented during the Internationales Gamelan Musikfestival München in Germany in June 2018, together with composer Iwan Gunawan and his ensemble Kyai Fatahillah.
